Services

health education/promotion

Our nurses provide educational workshops at 18-80 Club, Appanoose Community Care Service, and other agencies in the county.  We also provide education over the phone when people call in with questions.

IDSS

IDSS stands for Iowa Disease Surveillance System.  Public health is notified by the state of any infectious disease in Appanoose County that requires evaluation follow-up and treatment.

VFC

Vaccines for Children (VFC) is a program to allow Appanoose County Public Health to provide vaccine at no cost to those children whom do not have the resources to obtain it elsewhere.  To be eligible the child must be under 18 and qualify for Medicaid, uninsured, American Indian or Alaskan Native, or underinsured.

school/licensed day care immunization audit
flu clinics
maternal health screenings

Our public health nurses go to the schools and licensed day cares and work with the school nurse to review immunization records of every child currently enrolled.  We make sure each child is up to date with all immunizations that the state requires.

Annually we provide the flu vaccine to our current clients receiving skilled nursing services.  We also conduct flu clinics at different workplaces in the county, 18-80, Shamrock Apartments, and in the small rural towns.  VFC also provides flu vaccines for the children.  We typically start these flu clinics in mid September.

5 days a month American Home Finding in Appanoose County provides screening for pregnant women and assists women with pregnancy health issues.

presumptive eligibility

We also have staff qualified to register people for Presumptive Eligibility (PE).  PE provides Medicaid for a limited time while a formal Medicaid eligibillity determination is being made.  This offers people immediate health care coverage.

These are just a few of our many services we offer to the residents of Appanoose County.  Call with questions about any of our services.
